Getting A New Kitten? Importance Of Spaying Or Neutering

If you are getting a new kitten, there are many things you must do to ensure it stays healthy. One of these things is spaying or neutering your kitten once it becomes old enough. There are many reasons why this is so important, three of which are listed below.

Help Your Cat Be More Comfortable

Female cats will go into heat if they are not spayed. This causes them to be uncomfortable as they will feel sexual desire and not know why they are feeling like this. Your female cat may make gurgling sounds and may constantly want to look out the windows. They may also become more aggressive. You may notice your female cat bleeds, which may increase their risk of getting a urinary tract infection (UTI). Instead of your female cat having all these uncomfortable feelings, getting it spayed will keep your cat healthy and happy.

Prevent Unwanted Guests

A female cat that is not spayed will attract male cats and your cat will try to escape. If they do get out and there is a male cat nearby, the male cat will smell your cat and quickly come to your property. This will result in your cat getting pregnant which can lead to several new kittens in your home. This is expensive because you need to provide health care to the kittens. It can also take up a lot of your time finding homes for the new kittens if you do not want to keep them. If you have a male cat, they will go around the neighborhood getting other cats pregnant on a constant basis. Be sure to get your new kitten spayed or neutered so you can avoid these issues.

Prevent Spraying in Male Cats

If you have a male cat and do not get it neutered it will likely spray in different areas of your home. This spray is very strong and can be difficult to clean. This is especially true if the cat sprays on things like carpeting, fabric furniture, etc. The smell will linger in the room no matter how much you clean. You may end up having to replace the carpeting or the furniture. Getting the male cat neutered will reduce its sexual desire which lowers the risk of them spraying. Female cats also spray, though not near as much as male cats.

Have your cat spayed or neutered at your vet's office or look for animal hospitals that provide this service at a lower cost.
